What To Do On Vacation #1:
By Jane from Minnesota – I love going to museums whenever I’m on vacation. One of my favorite is in South Dakota and tells the story of Custer's Last Stand - The Little Bighorn national Monument. The interpretive center tells the story from the perspectives of both the US Cavalry and the Native Americans.I just like to visiting museums. Large museums are fine, but my favorites are small, quirky small town displays of local history.

Sometimes these displays are in conjunction with a gift shop, or perhaps a local festival or a county fair. An historical preservation society or sometimes a family rescues an archive and puts it into some kind of social or cultural context for visitors to enjoy and appreciate.

Without some one's care and perception, these little pieces of history would disappear. I also like interpretive centers. Some are elaborate and others appear insignificant at first glance. Roadside markers and historical sites fall into this category.

What To Do On Vacation #2:
By Arthur from San Diego - My favorite thing to do on vacation is to find and try the local restaurants. But not the ones that you read about in Frommer's or see on the Travel Channel. Those are the restaurants that are good, but lack the regional taste. You can eat at a five star Mexican restaurant in New York but it won't taste as good as the corner one in San Diego.

To find the really authentic restaurants you need to either scour the web looking for a review of a place, and make sure the review was given by a local and not the restaurant's owner or if you can swing it get a local to take you to their favorite places. For example on my last vacation I went to Tennessee and had a friend take me to all of her favorite places.

We ate the best fried food you could imagine. You have not lived until you have had fried chicken with a side of slaw for lunch and then have a corndog and deep fried Twinky for dinner. If I had not known anyone in Tennessee I probably would not have eaten half as well.

What To Do On Vacation #3:
By Ann from Minneapolis - My favorite vacation thing to do is to stroll the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Of course, you can only truly stroll the boardwalk after a wonderful dinner, and there are many fabulous independently owned restaurants in town, many within walking distance along Rehoboth Avenue. And you can only truly enjoy that meal after working up a good appetite in the surf, which will pound you mercilessly if you don't get out of its way at high tide.

Your stroll, as well as mine, must include a stop at Funland, a vintage amusement park tucked into half a block along the beach. Best bumper cars on the East Coast. And that stroll must also take you by Dolle’s, home of the best caramel corn anywhere. Sharing a box with your beloved while listening to the breakers and watching the fishing boats work the bluefish runs is about as good as life gets.

What To Do On Vacation #4:
Cliff from Pennsylvania - My favorite activity for vacation involves finding unique and interesting places to take pictures of my daughters. For instance, we travel to Central Florida several times per year to visit my parents. Of course we always take the girls to Disney World and Universal Studios while we're there and in those two massive theme parks there is an unlimited supply of photo opportunities. Those photo ops are not the kind I'm usually looking for.

What I'm looking for when it comes to pictures of my kids are the kind that can only be found in a more natural setting. One particular example is a tree that is located in Winter Park, Florida. It's split down the middle several times and has grown tall in all directions. In that split, there is ample room for both of my girls to stand together and we've enjoyed quite a few posings in that location.

Ever since the first time we saw that tree, I've sought out other settings for the types of pictures that you hang on your wall for the duration, not just till the next great picture is taken. I hope I'll always take the time on vacations to look for that next great picture.

What To Do On Vacation #5:
By Barbara from Tuscaloosa, Alabama - When we go on vacation the first thing we do is check the phone book for a German restaurant. We love German food. If we find one, we will go eat there. If we do not find one, we will then try another type of food that we do not get in our hometown. We like to eat and we like to eat different food. We sometimes plan a trip around food. We would never eat at a fast food place while on vacation. We want to experience what the locals eat.

Also we never get the same type of food. We get different entrees or side items so we can try as much as we can. We always ask people at the motels where they like to eat or getting on the internet before we go someplace to see what types of places we can go to eat. Reading this you would think we are both overweight but I am not.
