Wales Vacations

1001 Vacation Ideas Home

Take your Wales vacations to the countryside with a ride on The Great Little Trains of Wales. These old-style steam powered trains travel on narrow gauge track and offer a fun, leisurely way to see the countryside. This means that they are smaller than regular trains and move at a slower pace.

This is fine because it gives you the opportunity to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The rail lines traverse Wales north to south and east to west. It's a great way to get where you are going or just enjoy an outing with the family.

Just outside the village of Pumsaint lies the Dolaucothi Gold Mines.

Secreted within the green rolling hills and valleys of southern Wales, the mines are under the care of the National Trust. There are two tours, the Roman Tour and an Underground Tour. 1930's mining machinery is on display. The surrounding woodlands have many marked walking trails.

Snowdonia National Park offers lots of outdoor activities in the mountainous region of northern Wales. Walking, climbing, and bird watching are popular as there are lots of guided walks and landscaped trails among the dramatic peaks and valleys.

Other interests are the beaches along the coast, Bala Lake for water sports, ruined castle Castell-y-Bere, and the spectacular Black Waterfall.

In the heart of Mid-Wales, Beiciau Madian Quads, offers two exciting activities. On their Quad Trak you take a 4x4 off-road into the beautiful countryside where most people can't go.

This is available for any level of experience, even the complete novice. Everyone can enjoy Lasersport clay pigeon shooting. Lasersport guns fire a harmless infrared beam at re-usable clays. It's completely safe and lots of fun.

Portmeirion Village, Wales typifies the Welsh culture of poetry and music. It is the home of the beautiful Gwyllt sub-tropical gardens. This private resort is open to Wales vacations visitors daily. If you remember the television show, "The Prisoner", it was filmed here. The Prisoner Tour will show you the buildings and spots where the filming took place.
