You will board the train at the scenic Marshfield Base Station which is at 2,700 feet altitude. Then the 19th century style locomotive and passenger car ascend the Cog Railway for a 2.5 hour roundtrip ride to the summit of Mount Washington at 6,288 feet above sea level.

The steam engine locomotive is the same as was used when the railway was built in 1869 except that today it uses innovative eco-friendly bio-diesel technology. The view from the summit is, well….spectacular. You are literally up above the clouds and on a clear day you can see all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.

You can stay overnight at the 100-year old Mount Washington Resort that offers a spa, a fun Canopy Tour and the Donald Ross Golf Course.

Ames Brook Campground is in Ashland, NH and lose to all the area attractions The camp sites are large and sunny with electric/water/sewer/cable TV/Wi-Fi. Ames has been called the “Best Small Campground in New Hampshire”.
• For some secluded wilderness camping, try Crawford Notch General Store & Campground. This campground is located on 95 acres in Hart’s Location in the heart of the White Mountains. Camping cabins and yurts are available.
• For a fun themed camping experience there’s Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Ashland. Parents will appreciate the supervised activities for the kids. Private tent camping sites are available as well as log cabin rentals. Choom spots that are open, wooded or with a river view.
• The great thing about Fort Jefferson Campground at Six Gun City is that is located next door to the fun-filled attractions Six Gun City and Splash Water Park. They have 100 sites that can accommodate tent camping as well as full RV hook-ups.

• The History Trail is an interesting look at the region’s historical sites.
• The Covered Bridge Trail showcases some of the many old covered bridges that the New England area is famous for.
The Waterfall Trail features some of the White Mountains many beautiful waterfalls. Many of the waterfalls can be seen from the road but for some you will need to leave the car and hike to the falls.
• The Steel Rail Trail gives you a good look at some of the area’s train sites. There are restored vintage railcars, or fancy dining cars or steam powered mountain climbing cog railways.

The pond has a beach and you can swim or rent a boat. Lifts take you to the network of trails for hiking and biking. The resort has a 9-hole golf course and 18 outdoor clay tennis courts. At the athletic club you can enjoy two pools, racquet courts, saunas and exercise equipment. Waterville Valley Resort makes a great spot for a family vacation or a romantic getaway.
