The mansions have everything from parties to tours and even one that does a fantastic murder mystery which you participate in while doing the tour. You pull up to this mansion and you are instantly swept through time to the late 1800's. The architecture is simply stunning. Once inside it is like entering heaven with its high ceilings and gorgeous antique furniture. Everything is clean and lovely. I highly recommend this Hotel! If you can pull yourself away from the hotel, Newport sits on the ocean. There are boat tours of all types from the lighthouse tours to many dinner or party excursions. There are also several beautiful beaches you can go to. The Waterfront has miles of historic sites, museums, bus and trolley tours, exclusive stores, many pubs and restaurants. The atmosphere is charming with cobblestone streets and many buildings from the 1700's. There are even haunted grave tours after dark. One of the greatest things we did and enjoyed so much is the cliff walk. This is a three and a half mile walk along the ocean with cliffs and caves and mansions all along the walk. Just remember you then have to walk back to your car so for us it was closer to a seven mile walk and we all loved every moment! But this is still not everything, there is the dinner train. It's a train handsomely decorated in 1940's style which takes a tour around Narragansett Bay while serving you a nice lunch or dinner. Besides all the pubs there are several playhouses and theaters in the area. The whole family has fallen in love with Newport! We are big fans of hiking and love to get out among the trees and stretch our legs in nature. Walking through the wild grass and climbing up and down the slopes is good for the body and the soul. The views and scenery are so nice. Our favorite trail is called the Berrypicker. We take it nice and leisurely, no stress, all the way from the village to Eagle's Nest. We bring a picnic lunch to eat at Minnie's Deck along the way. One of our favorite ideas is a stay at the Sitzmark Lodge. The lodge is located in the center of Vail Village near Gore Creek, and Vail's European style shopping/dining area. In addition, the lodge has onsite retail stores which are also an advantage. If you enjoy French cuisine at reasonable prices, the Left Bank Restaurant at the Sitzmark has the best Bouillabaisse de Crustacés au Fenouil I've ever had. This lobster, shrimp, and mussels dish is a must have. For us, Vail has been such a great summer vacation spot we keep going back.
