Vacation in Virginia #1:
By Lauren from Virginia - Come on down to Olde Town Fredericksburg! Fredericksburg, Virginia is rich in history and excitement. Olde Town has seen bloody battles of the Revolutionary and Civil wars (where the Angel of Marye Heights was made famous!), been the backdrop of a popular movie, and become a hidden culinary hot spot. The small, mom-and-pop style shops that line the streets create a cozy feel.

But there's always something going on in Olde Town! First Fridays feature local bands, as does Music on the Steps. The parks, located right on the Rappahannock River, offer great spots for kids to freeplay. And all of the battlefields (and small museums with information pertaining to) are amazingly preserved for your historical enjoyment!

In Olde Town, it's easy to find Virginia ham and peanuts, great entertainment, and easygoing residents. Enjoy this cool vacation idea!

Vacation in Virginia #2:
By Sarah from Maryland - My favorite thing to do on while on vacation is to go to Chincoteague & Assateague Island National Park in Virginia, and spend time at the Assateague beaches. The beaches are a wonderful place to getaway. So pristine - no boardwalk, no shops, no roller coasters- just beautiful beach and lovely water. If you walk far enough up the beach, there are nesting birds.

Assateague has some really nice bike baths, too, and when biking, one can come across the wild ponies that live on the island. Several of the bike rental places on Chincoteague offer tandem bike rentals, so you can take a bicycle built for two all over the place (my brother and I used to always share one, while my mom and dad would share another).

There are a ton of great seafood restaurants on Chincoteague, and all sorts of shops that sell salt water taffy and fudge. So, in summary, all the best things about a beach vacation, but without the crowds and bustle of commercial beaches are at Assateague Island National Park.

Vacation in Virginia #3:
By Zach from Virginia - I would have to say my all time best vacation idea was to Bush Gardens in Virginia. Bush Gardens is broken up into different sections which represent different countries in the world. I found this entire concept so fascinating: It's just the idea of being able to experience all the different cultures just by walking to the next area. It is just an amazing park for all age groups; they have rides for the thrill seekers and they have calmer activities for young youth and the elderly.

Everybody can come here and have a good time, as did I.I was down all the park all day with friends and family, after which we ended up staying at a nearby Days Inn, we then returned the next on our 2 day pass.

Vacation in Virginia #4:
By Jeremiah from Pittsburg - Virginia Beach is one of the best family vacation spots in Virginia. Our family went there last fall, and had a wonderful time. We stayed at the Holiday Inn that is right in the middle of the boardwalk. So we were right at the beach and in the heart of all the activity. It was an easy hotel to get to from the highway, and had convenient parking.

We all agreed that it's so wonderful to be able to wake up to the smell of the ocean every morning. The people who work in the shops, and the other vacationers were very nice and courteous. There is a Jet Ski rental at the boardwalk so we rented some jet skis and had a ball. This was loads of fun. We were able to go out about a half mile from shore so that was big adventure for us.

They also have bike rentals that you can use to ride up and down the boardwalk. Bike riding is a great way to explore and it's a lot less tiring than walking. Plus it's just plain fun. This is a great experience. Overall this was one of the best vacations that we had ever taken. I highly recommend Virginia Beach if you are looking for family vacation spots in Virginia.

Vacation in Virginia #5:
By Kisha from Tampa - One of my favorite vacations was a road trip from Tampa, FL to my hometown of Hampton, Va. It is about a twelve hour drive, but this time we enjoy the sights and each other’s company. It was my three children, my fiancee, and I. While driving we pointed out the animals we seen along the highway, such as cows and horses and my children really enjoyed that. Since this was during the summertime we decided to stop at South of the Border. We couldn’t resist after seeing all the funny signs along the highway. That is such a fun place to visit and it has any and everything you could ever need when on a road trip. It has hotels, gas stations, restaurants, game areas, and plenty of statues to take pictures with.

We ate a nice little restaurant and walked around a while and took in all the sights. There are people from all over that stop in there and everyone seems to be having an enjoyable time. The rooms were clean and the staff we encountered was very friendly. Stopping there broke the monotony of our long drive and made the rest of the trip fly by. It is definitely somewhere I will be stopping at again this summer.
