Vacation in the Natural World of Wisconsin

Our favorite vacation activity is to enjoy the natural world of Wisconsin. We are lucky enough to live in a beautiful state, with a bounty of parks, trails, and forests.

Every weekend, we find a nearby day-hike on a trail, or a kid-friendly activity at a local nature center. These family days keep us closely connected to the world of learning. When we have more time off, like during spring break, we plan nearby adventures in our state parks, on the Ice Age trail, at the Horicon Marsh, or on the Wiowash Trail.

We take our bicycles, and our lunches with us, and we make a real trip of it. The kids do all the planning and preparation. Wisconsin tourism websites help us out on the planning.

We also get help from the DNR website and the Forest Service website. Even just a "google" of "Wisconsin recreation" always gives us a load of ideas, and this is a great way for kids to feel directly involved in their own family fun. Bottom line, our vacations are never expensive, but they are always rich.
