A Juneau Alaska vacation can be a truly unique experience. Juneau has quite a dramatic setting at the banks of the Gastineau Channel. It’s a popular day stop for Alaska cruise lines.

This capital city of Alaska is surrounded by beautiful snowcapped mountains and the Tongass Nation Forest. Here are a few great ideas for things to do in Juneau.

Browse through some of the wonderful antique shops such as Alice’s Antiques, The Antique Gallery, The Roosevelt Room or Bejean Collectibles.

The Mt. Roberts Tramway will take you on a breathtaking ride up to a mountain observatory where you can take in the incredible views of Juneau and the Inside Passage.

Get an all day pass to ride The Juneau Trolley Car Company’s charming red trolley cars. The 30 minute loop through downtown will take you to all the attractions you want for the day.

Across the channel is Douglas Island where you will find the remains of centuries old gold mines along with the only sandy beach in the area. It's named, appropriately enough, Sandy Beach.

There is a nonprofit regional theater, Perseverance Theater where you can see live performances of plays by Alaskan and national playwrights.

Also on Douglas island is the public ski area, Eaglecrest Ski Area.

Above & beyond Alaska provides day trips to Mendenhall Glacier for glacier trekking.

Their professional guides will take you through the rainforest and along the lake's edge of the Mendenhall Glacier for close-up views of ice caves, streams, crevasses and other unique glacial formations

Big Jim’s Charter will take you fishing for Alaskan Chinook Salmon, coho, chum or pink.

As well as fishing, Jim will take you out for whale watching or some excellent plain sightseeing on his private luxury cabin cruiser, Miss Jaynefer.
