Most of the trip was spent in California where we visited stores in San Francisco and San Diego. I like going on road trips because they allow you to see a lot more scenery than if you took a plane to your destination. It also allows you time to bond with whomever you are riding with. I definitely wouldn't suggest a road trip alone because that to me is no fun. We then moved on to Massachusetts, where we visited Salem. It was a pretty cool place if you stuck to the non-tourist places. After which, we continued up the coast to Maine, where we tried lobster at a local micro-brewery. Then driving on to Vermont, where we visited The Ledges for swimming and a day at the lake. Then we stopped to visit New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Maryland on the way home to Georgia. The best part of the trip was the time I got to spend with my husband. From the flash and dazzle of Las Vegas to the breathtaking mountain views of Washington and Oregon, there are many different kinds of attractions present throughout this trip. In the same vein, the accommodations vary hugely from place to place. My personal favorite was a small bed and breakfast run by an elderly couple near Seattle. There’s tons of those spread across the country, so my advice would be to avoid big hotels as much as you can and instead stay at family-run places. Whatever you do, the memories will be priceless. For dinner that night, we went to the local Chili’s and spoiled ourselves with dessert and great food. The next morning we woke up and continued our drive into Colorado, heading toward Mesa Verde National Park. This was the highlight of our trip. We first stopped at their visitor’s center and purchased tickets for a guided tour of the Balcony House. We had a couple of hours to spend before our tour, so we went to the café within the park for lunch. After lunch we headed down for our tour. The tour lasted about an hour and a half and was not only a great hike but also it had great views. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the Aztec people. We spent another couple of hours driving around the park and looking at the ruins. Then, we started our drive into Durango, CO. Once we got into Durango, we headed into town to eat dinner. We stopped at a local Italian restaurant called “Mama’s Boy”, then we toured the city. We went into some of the little shops, drove down to the river and checked out the famous railroad. Overall this was a great trip and my husband and I spent some quality time together, seeing great things that my husband had never seen before. Heading out from Florida, our plan was to see as much of the west as we could in a week. Along the way we were able to see the meteor crater, the Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert. We made it to Flagstaff AZ, the most beautiful little town, where we stayed the night at an Inn. In the morning we took the winding mountain roads towards the Grand Canyon. There was still snow on the ground. It may have been slush or permafrost but to a Floridian it was beautiful snow. This is my favorite part of the whole trip as my son had never before seen snow and we were able to have our first snowball fight. We made it to the Grand Canyon. Spent the entire day hiking the south rim, stopping for every overlook and photo op. We were only 3 hours from LA but we had just enough time left for the drive home. The sights were beautiful as we all enjoyed the drive. In Albuquerque you drive mountain trails and just enjoy the scenery. Make sure to stop in the town and at the shops. I was able to find petrified wood and authentic turquoise Hopi made jewelry! There is also a very interesting museum at the Petrified Forest that has dinosaur fossils and a lot of interesting information about the process by which the wood became petrified. A drive across country to the Grand Canyon is an excellent USA road trips vacation idea. By Griffin from Indiana – A road trip in an RV can be the best vacation idea for kids. I was approximately 9 years old when I embarked on my favorite vacation – a road trip. My parents borrowed my grandparents RV and we packed our bags hopped in and started driving west. We drove and drove having great family time playing UNO on the table. I was the youngest in the family at 9 years old and remember everyone being confused on why I was so good at UNO. I won just about every game! It seemed like we just played a couple hands when we stopped at our first destination. Mount Rushmore. It was awesome! We saw it at night when it was all light up. That was the most amazing site ever. It's not like seeing pictures on the internet or watching it on TV. In real life, it,s just a breath taker. Soon afterward, we were at our next destination, Yellowstone National Park. The sites were unbelievable but at my age I was running down the pathways holding my nose from the smell. Smelled like rotten eggs my brother, and sisters, joked. Old Faithful was the spotlight of the vacation just seeing it shoot up the water was insane. Plus knowing it was all natural and there was no device shooting it up. After a couple weeks at camp sites, winning in UNO, and our awesome destinations, I was ready to go home to relax and think about this amazing family vacation experience.
