The beach is great for the kids, and you can easily rent chairs and umbrellas for the day from beach vendors. Another fun thing we did was spend a day at the Schlitterbahn water park. Schlitterbahn is a huge water park with many slides, a 5-story "Sandcastle" water fun house, and access to the beach. Actually, Schlitterbahn is a great way to enjoy the best of both worlds--a water park and the beach with all the comforts of close by restrooms and access to food and drink (even if it is a bit pricey). If you want to go to the beach in Texas, I think South Padre Island is your best vacation option. We stayed at Hotel Breakers on the 9th floor for the gorgeous view. Since it was the 4th of July we found it to be packed for the holiday as many Ohioans make it a tradition to visit for the fireworks show. They also have a wonderful laser and fire spectacular that they do within the park as well as the romantic "Starlight Experience" on the Frontier Trail. There are restaurants galore in the park as well as the hotel. We had a memorable experience with the chef squirting sake at our open mouths at the Tomo Hibachi Restaurant within the hotel! Hotel Breakers is over a 100 yrs old and has a few ghost stories attached to it for prospective ghost hunters as well as 3 pools and spas for the rest of us. The rooms were excellent. Large, clean, and homely. I couldn't ask for more. My family and I weren't looking to run around to all the attractions on the boardwalk. Going to see all the strange stuff in Ripley's Believe it Or Not just doesn’t appeal to us. We mostly just hung out on the beach all day and soaked up the sun. All the advertisements that go by are truly a treat too. However, the highlight of our trip really came on our second morning. We'd heard about this local joint, Dean's Breakfast Buffet. And, boy, am I glad we went to check it out. Sure, the line was a little on the lengthy side, but it was worth it. This place had every single thing you could imagine for breakfast, and I ate until I could even think about anymore food. Man, was that sausage was good. You can find a wide range of accommodations from hotels to condo to rental homes, many of which are located right on the ocean. They also offer a wide range of places to eat and the local cuisine is fabulous. Finding the locally owed restaurants is well worth it. There are several attractions including a water park, Gulf World, and various shopping opportunities. Panama City Beach is a great place to visit with the family or with your friends. If you are like me and like to spend your days laying on white sandy beaches with the sun shining down then Panama City Beach is the place to visit. We went to the Dalton Gang museum which is clearly marked in town and we also went to the two banks that still stand as tourist attractions. You can actually pass through the same door as Emmitt Dalton did back in the day. We then traveled west in Kansas and stopped in at Dodge City. This is where legendary lawman Wyatt Earp was once a town Marshall. This was a very neat place to go to. We stayed there for the night at a local Motel 6. The attraction of Dodge City was very interesting and you can actually go visit a recreation of Boot Hill, the local cemetery.
