United Kingdom Tourist Attractions #1:
Stonehenge, England is apparently on the list of outstanding tourist attractions in UK. Imagine that! Stonehenge doesn‘t dance, it doesn’t serve food, it’s only sound is the wind against it’s surfaces and it has no particular sex appeal. And yet it is one of the most favorite vacation spots in the UK.It was built somewhere between 3100 - 1100 BC which makes it old. Now, getting old is not a particularly great accomplishment!

So, what’s the big fuss about Stonehenge? Apparently some ancient tribe of people had a fascination with heavenly bodies and the laws of physics.

They showed this interest by building a group of stone formations that have significance well beyond what would be expected in that time period.

For instance, one of the formations is aligned with the sunrise at midsummer, the sunset at midwinter and the moon’s southerly rising.

Also, some of the stones weighted as much as four tons and came from locations 250 miles away. A move like that seems impossible for the technology of that period.

When you visit Stonehenge on your next vacation you will learn more about these two "factual wonders" plus several more even harder to believe. Perhaps when you figure it all out you’ll tell the rest of us.

United Kingdom Tourist Attractions #2:
William Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. His birthplace on Henley St. has been maintained over the years to become a favorite tourist spot to visit. He began his career in the theatre as an actor and had several years of success.

He then graduated to actor-manager which gave him advanced experience in the behind-the-scenes workings of the theatre. After these successes it was natural that he become a part-owner of the theatres Blackfriar and Globe. With all of that exposure to the theatre business, it was a blessing for all that William found his true calling as a writer.

Today his huge success as a writer is known the whole world over.Present day Stratford is a lovely little English town with several buildings structured in the style of 1500’s architecture, including Shakespeare’s birth place.

With millions of visitors each year the townspeople keep the ambiance at a high level. As of this writing The Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford is being refurbished and expected to be completed sometime in 2010. When completed it will be a first class experience to attend a performance.

United Kingdom Tourist Attractions #3:
Construction of Warwick Castle in Warwick, England was first started in 1068. The history books tell us that the castle was needed because King Henry I was worried about an attack by an ornery neighbor. Speed forward to 2010 and this castle becomes an excellent tourist visiting location due to the many interesting historic facts that have accumulated over these many years.

Visiting the Castle as a tourist in present times you would probably want to see the once-a-day demonstration of a trebuchet which was a major weapon in the days of castle sieges. The trebuchet can sling an armament as heavy as 350 pounds high in the air and either breach the castle wall or smash into it. Strolling around the castle on a tour you will come face to face with a thousand years of history.

Over the years a good many ghost stories have been associated with Warwick Castle. One of the stories that has grown legs is that a fellow named Fulke Greville haunts the Watergate Tower. These stories were helped along by a 2006 television program that reviewed the various legends. These and many other stories bring countless Castle visitors each year.

This castle is really huge, probably the largest you will ever see. There is so much spectacular history connected with Warwick Castle and it‘s all quite visual, so if history is your passion be sure to come visit.

United Kingdom Tourist Attractions #4:
The Falkirk Wheel in Scotland is an impressive technical advancement in the area of moving boats from one water level to a higher or lower water level. Just a few years ago the old lock system was replaced by lifting systems which eliminated the slower lock system and the Falkirk Wheel is an improvement over the lifting system.

The interesting thing about this technological advancement is that it has become a tourist magnate because it is so much fun to watch it happen. You just don’t have to know how it’s constructed nor do you have to care about the history of locks and lifts. All you have to do is marvel at this new invention.

At the visitors center you can arrange for a boat tour which is called "The Falkirk Wheel Experience" and includes a ride on the wheel. The visitors center also has a café, a shop and exhibits related to the wheel. Also, you might be interested to know that this wheel is the only one operating in the universe.

United Kingdom Tourist Attractions #5:
The Drayton Manor Theme Park and Zoo is a for the whole family. There is something for every age plus something for those who are looking for dangerous thrills. The Park sits on 282 acres in Staffordshire near Tamworth, England. Some of their rides are downright scary and some are really wet. The Apocalypse is a very effective tower drop and the Shockwave is a rollercoaster with a unique twist.

You ride in a standup position which makes the rider seem more vulnerable by taking away the security of the sitting position. Stormforce 10 is probably the best wet ride in the UK and with it’s G-Forces and high speeds it is not for the timid. There are several more high energy rides for the adventurers plus a bout a dozen rides for the youngsters. The Zoo area has over 100 animals including big cats, penguins, primates, owls and reptiles.
