However, from this vantage point you can broaden the scope of your visit by planning the rest of your stay as you study the topography and layout of the city. When you finish your scrumptious meal you may want to work it off by taking the 830+ step stairway to the ground floor. You will find the traditional animals, such as lions, tigers and elephants in the North section of the park. Of course, you will find some real giraffes to match the one at the entrance. Also included in this grouping are those slow moving Galapagos tortoises and those “ever on the go” Otters. The Tiger Habitat Exhibit is quite interesting exhibit with it’s realistic forest locale. A large section of the zoo is dedicated to the Wilds of Africa theme. It includes a mix of many of Africa’s major habitats. It’s a blend Deserts, Woodland, Rain Forests and Bush. The zoo has a monorail which takes the visitor through several of the animal sections. The elevated look at the various creatures provides a uniquely different perspective on their living experience. Some of the animals that can be seen from the monorail are the Waterbuck, Blue Cranes, Ostrich, Addax, and Zebras. The Lay donation is an Ornamental Garden with falling water and many, many perennials and the Burnett collection is a 6.5 acre color garden of many varieties of more captivating Azaleas. The wildlife figures snuggled around the gardens are the bronze gifts from the Crow Family. The grounds are just the perfect setting for the many musical concerts by various local artists. In the Gazebo area you will find some large Magnolia trees and a sunken lovely garden, all of which is just perfect for a wedding. The museum has an IMax planetarium and theater for some intensely fascinating presentations of outer-space. The facility is divided into five sections, Explore My House, Water Room, Explore Your Back Yard, Little Urban Farm and Explore Your Town. For instance, the children get to become firemen and drive the realistic fire truck and learn how to be an EMT. When they morph into a farmer they learn how to drove a tractor, get milk from a cow and collect the eggs. One of the pretend activities involves a children’s theater where the kids can become little actors and actresses. All of these pretend actions are thoroughly realistic and your kids will be talking about their experiences for weeks on end. That’s one of the very best periods for good weather in Dallas. A fifty two foot tall cowboy named Big Tex will greet you at the entrance and a two hundred and twelve foot Ferris wheel will poke it’s head well above Big Tex and invite you for a high ride. Now let’s talk about what goes on at a Texas State Fair. First, you will be pleasantly surprised to find that a full-fledged automobile show is always a part of the fair. If you are a football fan you may already know that Texas and Oklahoma colleges play their annual game during the fair. Now, there’s one thing we’ve heard that can’t be confirmed. It’s called the Idiots Ride. We heard that it involved four idiots, a special see-saw and a wild bull. Of course, it may have stopped operating when they ran out of idiots! You can be sure that the Texas Fair has everything you would expect to find at a state fair. We hear that the food could be considered off the wall. You ask why? They sell all of the following in a deep-fried version: Oreo cookies, cheesecake, peanut butter and jelly, corn dogs and banana sandwiches.
