This is a town of spas and couples can enjoy all manner of physical and spiritual treatments. One town spa, Lavender Hill Spa, is known for its focus on couples.

Calistoga is located above San Francisco in the heart of wine country. Wine tastings can easily be part of this romantic California vacation idea.

The town has also drawn to it many artists giving the town its eccentric feel. Art galleries and antique shops are plentiful. A hundred years ago, Eureka Springs boomed with visitors coming to bath in the “healing springs”. You can see the rock basin carved out for bathing by the Osage Indians. It’s called Basin Springs.

Visit the weekend after Memorial Day and enjoy the annual Blues Festival. Or in the fall you can see the Ozark Folk Festival, a Eureka Springs tradition since 1947. A fun romantic activity is a ride through the wooded countryside on the restored steam locomotive Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railway.

The owners and staff are absolutely stellar and the B&B itself sits on a beautiful piece of property just through the woods of the main road on the Eastern Shore and overlooks the Bay. From the backyard, which the balconies of each room overlook, you can walk down a small stairway right on to a wild beach. Incredible!

While visiting both times, we experienced some of the most exquisite sunsets, comfortable weather (especially considering what August in Virginia is usually like!), and hospitality all while sampling delicious local fare.

Stingrays, Cape Charles Coffee House, the Machipongo coffee shop, Yellow Duck Bakery Cafe, Don Valerio's Mexican Restaurant, and the Eastville Inn are ALL places you need to check out during your visit... which clearly should be elongated just to take in all of the things that make the Eastern Shore of Virginia a unique, memorable, and phenomenal vacation destination.

Upon arrival, we were amazed at how beautiful the island was and how friendly everyone seemed to be. We quickly obtained our rental car (a convertible), and then headed to our resort on the west side of the island.

We stayed at the Mahana which was more of a resort instead of a hotel. We enjoyed that more as we were able to get "more for our money" by not having to pay for all the extras that a typical hotel would charge.

This made it easier to just go grab a pizza or head to Lahaina for a nice bite to eat. Two of our favorite activities that we did were a Blue Water Rafting trip around the south side of the island and a helicopter ride around the entire island.

We enjoyed these activities because they were not only fun, but they were a great way to view the island in a way that you usually do not get to. I would recommend heading to Maui any day -- you will not regret it. It’s a great romantic vacation idea.
