Visitors can join the Leopard Trail, watch the Creatures of the Night show or travel by tram through the Himalayan Foothills. The Night Safari opens at 7.30 pm and stays open until midnight. You can try the different types of Chinese cuisine or get a taste of Malay, Indonesian, Indian or Western food, and wash it all down with a cold drink or a cup of sweet local coffee. Eating out in a hawker centre is one of the most enjoyable culinary experiences in Singapore, and a meal often costs just a few dollars. If you walk South from the City Hall MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) station, you’ll find some of Singapore’s most famous historical landmarks: the former Parliament House, the City Hall, St. Andrew’s Cathedral and the famous Raffles Hotel. There are several museums and galleries here but one of the most popular is the fascinating Asian Civilizations Museum. Guided river trips are also available if you want to get a different view of Singapore’s most famous sights. A must for most visitors is to have a Singapore Sling in the Raffles Hotel where the cocktail was created. Chinatown also has several temples, and visitors are welcome to both the modern Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and the Sri Mariamman Hindu Temple. It is easy to spend hours here walking around, browsing the stalls and shops and sampling the tasty street food. A good place to learn about the history and culture of this part of Singapore is the Chinatown Heritage Museum. An easy way to get around Singapore is to buy the Ez-link public transportation card, a smart card that can be used in the MRT (Singapore’s metro) and the city’s buses. Singapore’s Little India has Indian restaurants, market stalls packed with incense and spices, and shops that sell bright Indian saris and glittering bangles. If you’re looking for genuine Indian food in Singapore, Little India is full of Indian restaurants and small Indian-style tea stalls. Singapore is one of the top vacation ideas in Asia. Of all South-East Asian cities, Singapore is the most Westernized. But it is also a mix of cultures: Malay, Chinese and Indian populations live here happily together, while the large Western expatriate population brings its own flavour into the blend. Most visitors come to Singapore for short breaks, but there is a lot to see and do in this small island state vacation spot.
