Muscle Beach is another sector where the iron men and the weight lifters hangout. For the highly active person there is handball, racquetball, and paddle tennis plus basketball and big-time beach volleyball. A couple of interesting facts are that skateboarding, as we now know it, had it’s beginnings at Venice Beach and for the star watchers, many of Hollywood’s famous have their homes in Venice. You surfers should also take note that the topography of the ocean floor associated with the beach has a tendency to create an excellent variety of wave forms for many rip-roaring rides. The Center is also deeply involved in various scientific research projects. Much of what they offer involves opening up the curious mind of both adults and school children to the wonders of science. The learning is easy and fun when you use the interactive exhibits at the Science Center. These exhibits cover everything from invention to animals and plants. Aerospace and it’s associated fundamentals of flight are particularly interesting and well done. Don’t miss the Science Court area where you can ride on a high wire bicycle. Now that sounds really exciting but it’s only one of the great things to do at the Science Center. You should also know that field trips are an important part of the Center’s learning curve so check the schedule for the times during the year when your special interest is featured. The study of ecosystems is an important topic these days so don’t overlook the unique way that the Center handles this subject. The Theme Park includes attractions and rides such as Jurassic Park ride, Revenge of the Mummy and Shrek 4-D. All of the rides and attractions are movie or TV related. The City Walk has scores of attractive shops, nightclubs and restaurants plus well over a dozen movie screens including a gigantic IMAX theater. The Studio Tour is a first hand look at the sets of specific movies and TV programs. These award winning Tours are really behind the scenes views of movie sets such as: Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds, Skull Island from the King Kong movie and the ever scary Jaws acting up for you personally. Keep in mind that in all of these tours you are seeing the actual set of the movie, which is plus for you movie buffs. With it’s 450 plus species and a total of more that 10,000 sea animals the Aquarium’s emphasis is directed to the Pacific Ocean. There are three key galleries; the waters of Northern California, the waters of Southern California and Tropical Pacific waters. Be sure to visit the Tropical Reef Habitat with it’s coral lagoon and oodles of sea creatures. You will see sea dragons, sea horses, sea snakes and a large exhibit of sharks. The sharks come in small, medium and large so you‘ll get to know that species very well before you leave. An important part of the Aquarium’s emphasis is on marine science including breeding of endangered animals and caring for injured species. The aquarium is seriously interested in extending their knowledge base and then passing it on to the public. That’s just what my family and I did last year and we had a blast of fun. They have more than forty attractions or rides plus two side by side large wavepools. We all tried the Wild Rivers Mountain ride and we still get a chill remembering the 70+ foot high ride though rivers of water as it helped up all the way to the end. When we needed a rest we found the lazy-river at found Explorer’s Island to be just the place to go Actually, in the lazy-river you really don’t go anywhere and that’s the best part of it. None of my family had ever surfed before but after several humorous tumbles we got he hang of it and ended up spending most or our time at her wave pools. Although we didn’t use them, we noticed some very nice scaled down water rides for young children and from the sound of it they were having as much fun as we older ones were. We also observed how friendly and helpful the park personnel were. We’re going back.
