Things to do in Kelowna BC #1:
So you’re interested in a Canadian vacation that includes hiking, golfing, boating, skiing and a bit of snowshoeing. Here is an idea that would satisfy all of those desires. Just fly, drive or walk to the town of Kelowna, British Columbia. The geography of Kelowna involves two distinct seasons, winter and summer. The summer season ushers in some excellent golfing at the seventeen courses around the town.

Be fair warned, however, these courses have the water and sand obstacles that would remind you of St. Andrews in Scotland. These should be no problem for you because your golf game thrives on challenges.

Gallagher’s Canyon Golf and Country Club has a championship rating in Canadian golf circles and picturesque scenery with every step.

Kelowna Golf & Country Club is famous for its exceptional grooming, attractive setting, and outstanding conventional layout. The 18 hole, Club at Tower Ranch, was designed by Thomas McBroom and is on track to become one of Canada’s championship rated golf courses.

Kelowna is located on Okanagan Lake and during the summer months the lake becomes as warm as 24 degrees C (78F) so several water sports can be enjoyed. There are three well developed beaches around the lake and Kelowna itself has a good beach along its waterfront.

You fisherman will be happy to know that there are launch areas available to get your boats in the water. These are both public and free. Also, there are rentable water toys readily available. As you would expect, the fishing on Lake Okanagan is spectacular with two of your favorites Kokanee Salmon and Rainbow as the star attraction.

The annual “Swim Across the Lake” is in it’s 62nd year which is a record for this type of community project. There are several hundred swimmers and the swim takes any where from 33 to 43 minutes to complete. The canoeing, kayaking, jet-skiing, wake surfing and paddle-boarding on Lake Okanagan are all top notch and rentals are available.

Kelowna has many excellent hiking trails. Some of the trails lead along the shores of Lake Okanagan or to the Salmon spawning area. If you are a camera buff there is hardly a turn in the path that doesn’t have a photo-op waiting for you.

Panoramic views are the norm in this territory. Some of the trails take you up Knox Mountain which only enhances your perspective and your view. Keep in mind that many of these excellent trails will handle walking, running, horseback riding and biking.

Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park lies just South of Kelowna and is over 100 square kilometers in area. A good portion of the park is only reachable by horseback, bicycle or foot.

Climbing Okanagan Mountain will reward you with a fantastic lake scene to the West and a beautiful view of the Monashee Mountains to the East. For some of you adventuresome vacationers this park will be love at first sight and oh yes, be sure to pack a picnic lunch.

Things to do in Kelowna BC #5:
First, you should know that the name Kelowna comes from the Indian name for the grizzly bear. You should know that the business of growing wine grapes and making wine is an integral part of their culture and their business.

There are four museums in Kelowna all of which are under the direction of the Kelowna Museums Society. Art is also a big part of the Kelowna culture. There are concrete Grizzly Bears in City Park and a bronze sculpture by Gert Maas at the Waterfront Park beach plus other artists work at the Sculpture Gardens and Gallery.

Other interesting facts about Kelowna are as follows: The city was designated ‘Cultural Capital of Canada’ in 2004 by the by the Canadian Governments’ Department of Canadian Heritage. They have a hockey team called the Kelowna Rockets who play their games at Prospera Place which is across the street from the Rotary Center of Arts.
