Things To Do Big Island #1:
The Kona district along the western coast of Hawaii Island is one of the most beautiful areas. You can enjoy both the land and sea of Kona with a helicopter or a submarine tour. Atlantis Submarine Kona is one of the tour companies. They take you down in a 48 passenger submarine for an underwater look at ocean life under the surface around Kailua-Kona Pier. You will explore a large coral reef teeming with tropical fish.

Paradise Helicopters offers a bird’s eye view of the lush green Hawaiian landscape, waterfalls and active volcanoes. Both of these adventure tours are hugely popular and there are a number of Hawaiian adventure tour companies that offer them.

Things To Do Big Island #2:
By Megan from New Haven - My favorite vacation experience was to the Kona Village Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii. The food at their restaurants was fantastic, the snorkeling in the bay was wonderful, and the atmosphere of the entire place was just relaxing (a very Hawaiian trait I was told).

One day we rented a car on site and traveled around the Big Island visiting Volcano National Park and downtown Kona. I really enjoyed seeing where the Ironman triathlon swim starts. Really though we would have been happy staying at the resort the entire week we were there.

They have scuba trips, tennis courts, spa treatments, pools, and so much more. If anyone is thinking of a trip to Hawaii I would strongly recommend looking into Kona Village Resort and preparing yourself for an absolutely wonderful and relaxing vacation.

Things To Do Big Island #3:
By Anna from Seattle - This winter my boyfriend and I took a vacation to Hawai'i. We decided to stay in an affordable vacation rental on the Big Island near Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. There we explored lava caves, fern forests, and steam vents. There are many short hikes around the summit of the Kilauea volcano that we enjoyed at a leisurely pace.

Although the volcano's lava was not flowing anywhere where we could approach it by foot, we were able to watch sunset from the shoreline and see a faint orange glow creeping down the distant hillside.

The Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park is the largest tourist attraction in the state, and yet it feels uncrowded due to its immense size. If you plan to visit the park on multiple days, it may be cheapest to buy a yearly pass to the park (for 2 individuals or either of the individuals and any guests in the same vehicle) for twenty dollars.

Things To Do Big Island #4:
By Marie from California - My favorite vacation was a trip that I took to the Big Island of Hawaii. I traveled with girlfriends and we stayed at the most beautiful resort, Mauna Lani Bay Resort. We rented a condo for the week and it was absolutely beautiful, spacious rooms, bathrooms, a full kitchen, and lovely porch that looked out over the resort grounds and the private beach.

The resort itself had wonderfully decorated grounds, with fish ponds all over teeming with turtles, eels, and various fish. My favorite place in the resort was seaside café where they served wonderful food just steps away from the sand.

During our week, we toured the island checking out tourist attractions, local gardens,a snorkel cruise, beaches, and even went para-sailing. We visited the the Mauna Loa macadamia nut packaging plant as well.

There is so much on the Big Island to do, we only got to a fraction of the attractions. I would recommend visiting to anyone who is looking for a relaxing tropical get away.

Things To Do Big Island #5:
There are a number of historical spots to visit on Hawaii Island. At South Cape you can see evidence of early Hawaiian people, the ruins of a temple and an early fishing shrine. South Cape is also the southernmost spot in the U.S.

At the Kona Historical Museum you can take a walking tour of a 1920 era Japanese coffee farm and see local artifacts from the 1800s. The museum is located near Kealakekua.

The Lapakahi State Historical Park is the site of a 700 year old fishing village where you can see the remains of homes and a canoe house.

In Kamuela, you can visit the Parker Ranch, one of the largest private ranches in the U.S. There are two historic homes here from the mid 1800s as well as various exhibits with ranch objects from the period. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is the site of some 15,000 images etched into the lava rock by early Hawaiians. These are the Puu Loa Petrographs.
