Texas Vacation Attractions

by Larry
(San Antonio)

When I moved to San Antonio nearly twenty years ago I knew most of the common attractions of South Texas.

I looked forward to seeing the Alamo and the rest of San Antonio area Missions.

I knew Corpus Christie and the Gulf of Mexico were just a couple hours drive away.

The state's capital just to the north has the University of Texas and is one of the fastest growing areas in the country.

Just to the north of Austin I have enjoyed escaping San Antonio to relax in a community that has all the charm of a "King of the Hill" episode.

A few miles up I-35 from the Austin area, Round Rock,Texas offers all the attraction a family might want in a vacation site.

The television show Friday Night Lights shot some footage in the Round Rock area.

In the Round Rock area you can visit one of the most accessible caverns in Texas in Inner Space Caverns; it has a super water area in Lake Travis and some of the most beautiful parks and challenging golf courses in the region.

If baseball is your sport, the Round Rock Express plays their home games at spacious Dell Diamond where as a "Triple A" minor league team you can literally see next year's major leaguers today.

There is no shortage of places to eat and, yes, TexMex is almost always on the menu. Prices for food and attractions are reasonable since Round Rock has one of lowest property tax and utility tax rates in the region.

Even the price of lodging is significantly lower than what you would pay the closer you get to the University of Texas in Austin.

Being almost smack dab in the middle of the state, the locals escape much of the drought and heat of South Texas as well as the chilly winter snows that hit Dallas during the winter months.

This also makes planning an escape to Round Rock a year round opportunity.
