Texas Family Vacation Ideas #1: Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District is part of the Dallas - Fort Worth Metroplex. This is the place to go if you really want to get taste of the Texas cattle ranch culture. For a long time, the stockyards were the destination of the rancher’s cattle herds. Now there are still livestock pens but the area is mostly a shrine to the western cowboy way of life.

There are cowboy museums, genuine western shops, a rodeo arena, Wild West saloons and lots of historical buildings in the tradition of the old west.

Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District is two miles from downtown Fort Worth. This is a prime cultural attraction in the Dallas - Fort Worth area so plan to spend some of your Texas vacation soaking up the real spirit of the old west.

#2: The Comal River is one of the shortest rivers in the world. It runs for three miles from the Comal Springs to the Guadalupe River in downtown New Braunfels, Texas.

Because it is spring fed, the river stays a constant 72 degrees all year round providing a refreshing respite from the Texas heat.

The Jonsson Color Garden is an extensive bed of Azaleas, in season, which can easily hold your eye captive.

The Lay donation is an Ornamental Garden with falling water and many, many perennials and the Burnett collection is a 6.5 acre color garden of many varieties of more captivating Azaleas.

The wildlife figures snuggled around the gardens are the bronze gifts from the Crow Family. The grounds are just the perfect setting for the many musical concerts by various local artists. In the Gazebo area you will find some large Magnolia trees and a sunken lovely garden, all of which is just perfect for a wedding.

One of the pretend activities involves a children’s theater where the kids can become little actors and actresses. All of these pretend actions are thoroughly realistic and your kids will be talking about their experiences for weeks on end.
