Pickwick Landing State Park … part of the Tennessee Golf Trail … is located near Pickwick Dam near the border of Mississippi and Alabama. This is also a fairly challenging course and considered one of the best public courses in the state. Between rounds you can get in some fishing or boating on Kentucky Lake.

Cumberland Mountain State Park is one of five world class, 18 hole golf courses designed by the "Golden Bear" Jack Nicklaus that are known as Bear Trace. Located in Crossville, this is an 18-hole championship, links-style course. The park has several miles of hiking trails, Olympic size pool, fishing, boating and picnicking facilities.

Harrison Bay … part of the Bear Trace … is 1,200 beautiful wooded acres along Chickamauga Lake near Chattanooga. The bent-grass, links-style, par 71 features two notable holes: number 18, a 450 yard par 4 with beautiful views from tee to green, and the 202 yard, par 3, number 2 which requires a delicate touch from the elevated tee box.

Ross Creek Landing State Park … part of the Bear Trace … is located near Clifton, along the Tennessee River. Each hole has five sets of tees so everyone can play at their level. Chickasaw State Park … part of the Bear Trace … is near Jackson, and an hour northeast of Memphis. This is a championship links-style course designed by Jack Nicklaus. The park also has hiking trails, horseback riding, biking, swimming and boating.

Central Tee Times is an excellent information resource in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. This organization allows you arrange tee times at 20 courses as you make your vacation plans. Up to a year ahead. They offer suggestions as to which courses suit your style of play and provide maps to the various courses.

Up in the high country, where Western North Carolina meets with East Tennessee you will find some courses that cannot be topped for beauty. The scenery sort of reminds one of Scotland where golf was born. For excellent golf instruction you might consider Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club. The teaching methods are highly respected in the golfing world.

Golf and Tennessee are such a great fit. Tennessee has a temperate climate with short, mild winters. The average annual snowfall for the state is 12 inches.
