Surfing Vacation Idea #1:
Biarritz, France is one of the most popular surfing spots in Europe. Ever since the 1950s it’s been a mecca for surfers, spectators and sun worshipers from around the globe. The surfing action goes on all year round warmed by the temperate Gulf Stream.

In July, Biarritz is host to the annual Biarritz Surf Festival, the most popular summer surf event in Europe. Biarritz is also a good vacation idea for the other activities besides surfing. The Bordeaux region around Biarritz is great for local winery tours and tastings. There are a number of local centers that specialize in thalassotherapy where you can cure what ails you with a warm sea water treatment.

Surfing Vacation Idea #2:
Guincho is one of a series of beaches Portugal’s west coast that are a favorite of surfers and windsurfers alike. The area is part of the Costa do Sol (Sun Coast). The surfing at Guincho draws pros from around the world and it’s the site of the annual Guincho Wave Classic surfing competition. Only a few miles from Guincho are two of the most popular beaches on the coast, Cascais and Estoril. Also nearby is the mountain town of Sintra where you can wander winding streets and browse antique and craft shops.

Surfing Vacation Idea #3:
Bondi Beach is only twenty minutes from the center of Sydney, Australia. It is one of the most popular beaches in the country for surfing as well as all the other activities that go on at a beautiful beach. Everything from topless sunbathing to bodysurfing to children wading in the sheltered saltwater pool. The beach and shore is well patrolled by members of the oldest beach lifesaving club in the world, The Bondi Surf Bathers’ Lifesaving Club. Other things nearby are a nice parkland for rollerbladers, skaters and cyclists, a great coastal walk, one of Sydney's Aboriginal sites and other popular beaches such as Tamarama and Bronte.

Surfing Vacation Idea #4:
The biggest waves can be found at Waimea Bay Beach on the North Shore, Oahu. These waves are for the most experienced surfers but that doesn’t stop the thousands of surfing enthusiasts who come here every year just to watch the pros. And when they are tired of watching and ready to catch a wave themselves they head over to Haleiwa Beach or Waikiki Beach, also on the North Shore, the surf varies enough so that everyone gets a chance to ride, even beginners. There’s plenty of surfing opportunities along the North Shore and the beaches are not nearly as crowded as Honolulu.

Surfing Vacation Idea #5:
South of Los Angeles is Huntington Beach, known as "Surf City". The beach is wide and long and is a favorite for surfers, beautiful tanned youths and families. It runs for eight miles along the Pacific Coast Highway so there is room for everyone. Granite stones along the route mark the Surfers Hall of Fame. You can view historical surfing artifacts at the Surfers Museum. Huntington Beach draws millions of visitors every year for the great surfing waves and beach fun.

Surfing Vacation Idea #6:
The other “Surf City” is in northern California. The name is claimed by Cowell’s Beach in Santa Cruz. This is where surfing started in the U.S. although it took the invention of the wetsuit for surfing to catch on here because of the cold water temperature. Besides the cold water, the other downside to Cowell’s Beach is the Great White Shark feeding grounds located off the coast of Santa Cruz. But the waves are big and surfers seem to take the cold and the sharks as part of the experience.

Surfing Vacation Idea #7:
Uluwatu is a great surfing location on the southwest coast of Bali, Indonesia. It has the best waves in the area. You have to head to the small sandy cove which is home to Suluban Beach. Then you need boots to cross over the sharp coral in the shallow offshore reef. When you get that far then you are ready to enjoy the crystal clear water and the great surfing action that draws surfers from around the world to Uluwatu.

Surfing Vacation Idea #8:
Bathsheba Beach, in the Caribbean is a surfing spot that is definitely for surfers who know what they are doing. Located on the east coast of Barbados, Bathsheba Beach gets a strong easterly wind off the ocean that brings with it huge rolling waves. Under the water are sharp coral reefs. For those with the experience and the guts, this is a surfer’s haven. In fact, there have been a number of international surfing championships held here in an area called The Soup Bowl, named after the foamy surf churned up by the wild waters.

Surfing Vacation Idea #9:
Jeffrey’s Bay is a quiet and remote spot on the southwest coast of Africa that draws surfers from around the world. Considered one of the best surfing spots in the world, rides as long as 800 yards have been reported. The Billabong Pro World Championship Tour is held here in July. Altogether there are seven great surfing locations all within a sort distance of each other. The beach is famous for its collectible seashells and nearby is the Addo Elephant National Park.

Surfing Vacation Idea #10:
One of Mexico’s best surfing spots is the little town of Puerto Esconido. It’s located on the southwest coast of Mexico and with strong regular waves it’s been nicknamed the “Mexican Pipeline”. The surf at Zicatela Beach is what Puerto Esconido is famous for but there are several other surfing spots like The Point, Kiddie Break and Far Bar. The three main area beaches Playa Principal, Playa Marinero, and Zicatela are calm enough for swimming and snorkeling.
