Stay in a Yurt With a Nomadic Family
by Angela

My most successful travels have always been vacations where I was able to make a direct connection with local residents.
I love to travel, but I have found that spending my vacation time surrounded solely by other tourists can feel empty and unfulfilling.
Find vacation ideas where you can spend time with locals.
This may consist of something as simple as seeking out an out-of-the-way restaurant or coffee shop and speaking to the patrons, or it may be something much more intensive like living with a family in the country you are visiting.
My favorite such experience was my stay in a yurt with a nomadic family on the steppe of Mongolia.
For me, there is nothing more rewarding than reaching across cultural boundaries and connecting with other world citizens who are so very different from me, but also so much the same.
