South Dakota Museum

One of my favorite South Dakota Museums is in South Dakota and tells the story of Custer's Last Stand - The Little Bighorn national Monument. The interpretive center tells the story from the perspectives of both the US Cavalry and the Native Americans.
I like to visit museums. Large museums are fine, but my favorites are small, quirky small town displays of local history. Sometimes these displays are in conjunction with a gift shop, or perhaps a local festival or a county fair.
An historical preservation society or sometimes a family rescues an archive and puts it into some kind of social or cultural context for visitors to enjoy and appreciate. Without some one's care and perception, these little pieces of history would disappear.
I also like interpretive centers. Some are elaborate and others appear insignificant at first glance. Roadside markers and historical sites fall into this category.
