Skiing Vacation Ideas #1: Aspen, Colorado is one of the most famous ski resort areas in the world. The Aspen Snowmass encompasses four mountain peaks Snowmass, Aspen Highlands, Aspen Buttermilk and Aspen Mountain. With so much terrain available you can find plenty of top ski action for all skill ranges from beginners to advanced skiers.

Got teenagers? The Too-Cool-for-School program teaches teens skiing and snowboarding in a fun group environment. There are also great programs for younger kids ages 5-12 and even children all the way down to age 2. It’s never too early to learn. Aspen Snowmass is a popular vacation idea for fun adventures in the snow.

Skiing Vacation Idea #2: The Cortina d'Ampezzo Ski Resort is in the Dolomite Mountains of Italy. This is one of the most popular skiing spots in all Europe. The 1956 Olympic Games were held in Cortina so you know there is some great winter sports action going on here. Bobsledding, snow rafting, snowboarding and high-speed tobogganing are popular here as well as skiing. Cortina has 87 miles of trails and 51 lifts serving them. Actually there are 12 ski areas in the around the Ampezzo Valley. Collectively they are known as the Dolomiti Superski Region and all together they have over 700 miles of trails.

Skiing Vacation Idea #3: Eastern Canada is home to Mont Treblant Ski Resort, one of the top ski and golf vacation resorts around, They have some cool ski vacation and golf packages. The highest peak in the Laurentians is here with over 90 ski runs with 19 lifts. Other winter activities include snowmobiling, dogsledding, cross-country skiing, tubing, skating and snowshoeing. For you golf enthusiasts there are two challenging and beautiful golf courses, Le Diable Golf Course and Le Géant Golf Course. Mont Treblant Ski Resort has been around since 1939 and it is located about an hour from Montreal.

Ski Vacation Idea #4: Stowe Mountain Resort comprises two of the best ski areas in the eastern U.S. - Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak. They are located in Stowe, Vermont. Mount Mansfield is Vermont’s highest peak and is best known for its double-black diamond (most difficult) "Front Four" trails. Beginner and intermediate skiers should head for Spruce Peak.

In winter, The Stowe Trolley provides free transport between Stowe village and Stowe Mountain Resort. For something unusual and fun try the twilight dog sledding tour. This is a cool family vacation idea as the dog sled rides are suitable for both children and adults.

Skiing Vacation Idea #5: The 1924 Winter Olympic Games were held in the Chamonix Valley, France. The Chamonix Ski Resort is often called “the world’s most famous ski resort”. The town of Chamonix and the ski resort are at the base of the highest peak in the Alps, Mont-Blanc. It’s no wonder that they can boast of having a ski run with a vertical drop of over 9,000 feet and another run that spans over 13 miles. And you can bring the kids because there are also plenty of gentle runs through the pine forests as well as easy cross country ski trails.

Skiing Vacation Idea #6: An excellent family friendly ski resort in Colorado is the Sol Vista Basin. It's located about 80 miles northwest of Denver. Sol Vista Basin has 400 acres with two mountain run areas. One is for beginners and intermediate skiers. the other is for intermediate and advanced skiers. Plus a learn-to-ski park with a surface lift. There's a central lodge that supports all the runs on both mountains. The Inn at Silver Creek is a popular place to stay. They have regular hotel rooms as well as condos that sleep up to eight people. The surrounding area offers many activities such as Nordic ski trails, cross-country ski trails and snowshoe trails.

Ski Vacation Idea #7: The best spot for skiing in the country, with a large concentration of ski resorts is Summit County, Colorado. Here you can find a variety of world-class ski resorts and ski related activities. You can ski lots of different terrain types and deals are available that give you access to multiple resorts for a very reasonable price. The most popular resorts here are Breckinridge, Copper Mountain and Keystone. Summit County has about 75 miles of excellent groomed cross-country ski trails and over 300,000 acres of skiable backcountry.

Ski Vacation Spots #8: Gatlinburg, in eastern Tennessee, is a little town nestled in the heart of the beautiful Smokey Mountains. It is a very popular honeymoon spot and is known for its cool mountain air, great scenery, sightseeing and interesting shops. Skiing is popular here and Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort and Amusement Park takes full advantage of the short winter ski season and also has attractions that are great year round. Also in Gatlinburg is Cristus Gardens which is a wax museum with a religious theme. You can view familiar scenes from the Bible such as the parables of Jesus, the Last Supper and the Good Samaritan.

Skiing Vacation Idea #9: Whistler Valley is a resort area in British Columbia, Canada that is famous for it's skiing. The winter outdoor activities available in Whistler are numerous. Take a Zip trek Ecotour, try some heli skiing and snowboarding. Take the family to the Coca-Cola Tube park for some snow tubing fun. There are helicopter or Snow Cat tours, horse drawn sleigh rides, dog sledding or cross-country skiing and many more.
