In the fall the byway is a popular way to see the blazing array of colors as the leaves change. There are many interesting stops along the trip such as the Minnesota Machinery Museum with it's collection of antique tractors, autos and various tools. Historic Chippewa City displays pioneer era artifacts in the 23 restored and replica buildings from that time. The Carnegie Art Center contains a gallery of local artists' works.
Located in southwestern Utah, Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks sit practically side-by-side with Cedar Breaks National Monument in the middle. Linking them all are scenic byways that provide great photo opportunities.
The winter activity possibilities are endless. Zion has many canyons that are great for hiking. The trails in Bryce Canyon are excellent for cross-country skiing. At Cedar Breaks National Monument you can snowshoe and enjoy a snowmobile tour. There are only a few national parks that allow snowmobiling and Cedar Breaks is one. Warm up next to the fireplace in a comfortable cabin at Brian Head resort located in the heart of the national parks.
Seasonal Vacation Spots #6:Contributed by
JeffPort Clinton, Ohio is one of my
favorite family summer vacation destinations. My wife and I have vacationed there three times. The first time we stayed in a hotel and the last two times we rented the same condo unit. The hotel and the condo were located right on the shores of Lake Erie. Staying in the condo was a much more enjoyable experience. There is so much to see and do there, that we plan to go back there yet again.
Port Clinton is a charming little town, as are the surrounding areas and communities on the peninsula. It still has that old, historical look and feel to it. Sitting on the beach, and wading along the shores of Lake Erie, was fun and relaxing. But driving along the historical routes, and checking out the scenery, is something that we never grew tired of.
There are several wonderful parks in Port Clinton, Catawba Island, and Marblehead. You can take a ferry out to Kelleys Island, Put-in-Bay, or Middle Bass islands, and spend entire days exploring the sites there. I don't fish, but my friends that do say that the fishing is great in this area of Lake Erie.
If you have children, you can load them up, drive to nearby Sandusky, and go to the wonderful amusement park there, which has attractions and rides for both children and adults. There is indeed something for everyone to enjoy in Port Clinton, and the surrounding area. We will definitely be going back there soon. For good family vacation ideas, I would say that Port Clinton is my best recommendation.
