We were in Japan for a little less than two weeks and visited about four different cities. You could easily spend two or three days just in Tokyo because the different sections are so different. One interesting places to visit in Tokyo is called Akihabara. Here we looked at Japan's latest gadgets and anime paraphernalia. At night we visited Shibuya and Shinjuku for the cool bars and karaoke. The Tokyo National Museum is another spot we visited. It’s in Ueno Park and our visit was awesome. I fell in love with a scroll painting there called "Honoo"/"Flame". We also enjoyed the displays with samurai armor, kimono and even beauty tools that the court ladies used. While walking back to the train station through the park, we saw an interesting homeless man who had about six cats that he had trained. The Hama Rikyu Garden is also in Tokyo and is one of the most beautiful places in Tokyo. It was absolutely stunning. It was raining the day we went, so my husband and I practically had the park to ourselves! It was surreal to be in such a traditional garden that was bordered by huge, futuristic-looking buildings, but it seemed to add to its beauty. On our trip, we also visited Nikko and Kyoto. Both are must-sees places to visit in Tokyo. Then we headed to the man-made island called Odaiba to attend the Design Festa. This event is held at Tokyo Big Site and occurs twice a year. If you have just a slight interest in art or crafts, you need to go! Japan is filled with creative artists who work in every genre. We saw so many energetic, beautiful, quiet, hilarious and amazing pieces there and it was a great place to buy souvenirs. We saw a lot of people dressed up in funny costumes. Getting here and there using Japan's awesome public transportation was a fun experience, too! The trains are so clean and I love that the Yamanote line does a big loop in both directions around the city, which is great if you get lost easily. And you can use your rail pass for it! There were some busts for us including the sword, parasite and beer museums, and the Sony showroom. I'm sure that they would be exciting for people who have a specific interest in those areas, but we found them only moderately interesting. Shopping in Tokyo is also fun if that's your thing. I really enjoyed walking around the basement floor of the major department stores such as Mitsukoshi/Isetan where they keep all of the food! The bakeries are awesome and will keep you from starving even if you don't enjoy Japanese cuisine. I ate so many croissants, crusty melon "pan" and rolls with sweet potato chunks. I already love Japanese food and this made it heaven! Japan is one of my favorite vacation ideas. I've been to Japan several times and I keep coming back because there are so many wonderful places to visit in Tokyo . I love that Japan is so different from the US and yet still has all of the comforts of the US plus a few more.
