This is an excellent vacation ideas for discovering Connecticut’s warm hospitality, historic New England towns and excellent local wines. Along the Naugatuck River is the Seymour historic village where you can visit the Victorian Arts and Antiques District. On the first Saturday night of each month, downtown Seymour comes alive with the District of Seymour Arts & Antiques Association's First Saturdays. Located near Bristol, the highlight of the park is the sixty foot high Chapman Falls. The falls flow into the Eight-Mile River which provides a tranquil location for fishing and picnicking. You can enjoy the 15 miles of hiking trails that wind through the hemlock forest and past the marshland. During the winter the trails are used for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. They are America's oldest amusement park so they must be doing something right. Their motto is "Whoever has the most fun wins!". And you can do it on their excellent variety of themed rides, water slides, thrill rides, musical entertainment and Garfield's Circus World for kids 3-10 years old. New London is also where you will find the Lyman Allyn Art Museum. The museum has an extensive collection of American art including paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, furniture and decorative arts. At Fort Trumbull State Park you can stroll the boardwalk along the Thames River and enjoy fishing from the pier. New London has many historic homes including the Shaw-Perkins mansion, the Monte Cristo Cottage and the Hempsted Houses. A favorite spot with kids is Saturation Station. This is a gigantic water themed Jungle Gym full of fun stuff like waterslides, water cannons and bucket waterfalls. Quassy Amusement Park also has one of the biggest Family Entertainment Centers around. Play games like Skee-Ball or Pinball , video games, pool, electronic darts and lots of cool stuff. For the past 150 years or so the prison’s history and old structures have served it well as a tourist attraction. It is officially a National Historic Landmark. Stop in for a look into the past. While you are there be sure to enjoy, and take some photos, of the Farmington Valley. The prison elevation presents visitors with a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside. This is a great spot to enjoy the autumn leaves as they change color.
