Ohio Vacation Ideas #10:One very interesting visit will be had at the
Old Courthouse Museum in Dayton. You can see exhibits showing Orville and Wilbur Wright's ventures. Their 1905 Wright Flyer III is on display at the
Carillon Historical Park along with a reproduction of the Wright Brothers' bicycle shop, some homes of the period and a 1930's print shop.
Ohio Vacations Idea #11:Here's a very interesting and educational vacation idea. Take a trip to
The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Located in Cincinnati, this inspiring attraction chronicals the network of safe houses and escape routes used by slaves to make their way to freedom in the north. Hear the voices of the past answer the question: "What does freedom mean to you?"
Ohio Vacations Idea #12: Contributed by Cleveland resident
Gina Christopher.
Traveling to Northeast Ohio won’t cost you an arm and a leg. In fact, a vacation for a family of four in Northeast Ohio is typically about 35 percent cheaper than a vacation in Boston or Chicago. Here are just some of the things Northeast Ohio has to offer:
- Arts & Culture– The Cleveland Museum of Art, a premier art museum, has a world-renowned collection of more than 40,000 works of art ranging over 6,000 years. You can catch a Broadway performance at Cleveland’s Playhouse Square Center, the largest performing arts center in the country outside New York City.
- Recreation – Lake Erie offers island getaways (with wineries, quaint inns and more), boating, sport fishing, swimming, parasailing, scuba diving, jet skiing and canoeing.
- Wineries – Travel to the 19 wineries located on the “Vines and Wines Trail” along Ohio’s Eastern Lake Erie shore.
- Thrills – USA TODAY called Cedar Point the "best amusement park in the world," with more than 16 rollercoasters sure to excite (or terrify). Also in the area is Kalahari Resort, America’s largest indoor waterpark.
- Halls of Fame - Several national halls of fame call Northeast Ohio home – the National Inventors Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
- Sports– Northeast Ohio has 300 public golf courses and many exceptional private ones, including Firestone Country Club, where Tiger Woods won four World Golf Championships Invitationals. Football fans can take in a game in a real football city with a team that’s slated to make it big this season, none other than the Cleveland Browns.
- Districts – Come discover the East 4th Neighborhood, which is rapidly becoming the place to experience life in downtown Cleveland, where you can listen to new bands at the House of Blues, or enjoy a meal from Iron Chef Michael Symon at his eatery, Lola. Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood has one of the largest concentration of historic churches you will find in the country. Central and eastern European immigrants settled in the area early and mid-19th century, bringing their customs, culture and religion with them. Many of the churches they built still flourish today and are great for sightseers.
Ohio Vacations Idea #13:The Dayton Aviation Heritage Park, in Dayton Ohio, is a great place for the whole family to visit. Tour a replica of the
Wright Brothers Cycle Company. It was here that Orville and Wilbur Wright made bicycles and then used the workshop to work on their idea for an airplane. The
Wright-Dunbar Village or the
Huffman Prairie Flying Field are interesting spots and you can arrange for ranger-guided tours. The Huffman Field was used by the Wright brothers for test flights. The kids will have fun learning hot to make a sled kite at Wright Brothers Memorial plus other children's activities.
