North Carolina town of Salem was originally founded back in 1766 by the religious and hard-working German Protestants called
Moravians. Today this first settlement is preserved in the historic district of the town called
Old Salem. The area contains over a 100 buildings that have been restored to their original appearance. This is a very interesting historical spot to visit. You can tour some of the restored homes. As you go through Old Salem you can learn about the early settlement and history of Old Salem from the costumed
interpreters. These historical guides also demonstrate Moravian crafts. The
Old Salem Museums & Gardens consists of four seperate museums and focus on history, early art, toys and 18th century children.
