Murano Island, Italy
Murano Island, Italy - Being a big fan of art glass and the making thereof, I wanted to see the glass factories of Murano. My first misconception was Murano Glass was made by one company.
Was I wrong! Murano Glass is produced by several glass making houses on the Island of Murano, which have been producing fancy glass since 1291.
If you are not a true glass lover, you will still enjoy the sights on the island, as it is considered a must-see, if you are a tourist in the Venice area.
It takes about fifteen minutes by water taxi departing from St. Mark's Church, in Venice, where the taxis run often.
When on the island there are museums to tour, and plenty of shopping, where of course, Murano Glass is sold.
