Minnesota Vacation Ideas #7: It would be hard to find a more German city than Minnesota's New Ulm. This scenic, charming and friendly city of 13,500 is located in the center of beautiful Minnesota River valley. New Ulm makes a good family vacation destination. The city has wide streets, classic architecture and plenty of Bavarian style shops and restaurants. The local German culture is everywhere and is featured in the many festivals and cultural events that the city holds throughout the year.
The German-American August Schell Brewery is open for tours of the brewery, gardens and deer park. The 1006-acre Flandrau State Park is located in the city and is an excellent place for family vacation activities like swimming, canoeing, tubing and fishing. The New Ulm Bike Trail follows a path through the city which is secluded and a natural habitat for deer, rabbits and a variety of birds.
Minnesota Vacation Ideas #8: My favorite place to vacation is Red Wing, Minnesota. This is an older town and with a lot of history. Red Wing is a very small town, but lots of options to keep you busy. Red wing is located on the mighty Mississippi with lots of pathways to walk along the river. You can watch huge boats run up down the river all day. You will see huge shipping boats to small fishing boats. It is amazing to see these huge shipping boats navigate down the narrow channels of the Mississippi.
There are also many restaurants, shops, and other trails to see. My favorite is eating at all the different restaurants available. If you are in average shape there is a big hill that overlooks the city and the Mississippi. It is about an hour hike up the hill, but the view is worth it. If you’re around Minnesota, I recommend stopping in Red Wing. - By Alex from Wisconsin
