Aside from the swimming, there are many attractions. You can go visit Pearl Harbor and pay tribute to America's past fallen soldiers. It's an experience someone of any age can enjoy. There are also large amounts of T-shirt shops and interesting stores all over the island. Going to Maui was by far the best vacation I've ever had and I have been saving to go back ever since. I tried surfing for one day and it was a blast despite the waves not even reaching a foot high that day. One night I went to a Luau and ate some delicious food and watched the Hawaiian girls dance in their grass skirts. Another day I drove to the top of the inactive volcano to see the whole island from far above and the view was great! There were so many different things to do on the small Island of Maui including several five star golf courses, biking tours of the island and there were even places for people to bring tents and camp on the side of the volcano. One of the coolest things I did was the road to Hana which is a drive around the side of the volcano to the other side which involves diving on the edge of the cliff on the rainy side of the mountain. The cliffs were beautiful and full of waterfalls. At the end of the road is the small town of Hana with just a few dozen people in population and a famous natural lemonade stand with snacks. Also in the town of Hana are the black beaches which are beaches full of black sand, they are a sight to see as there are only a few black beaches throughout the islands of Hawaii.Near the black beach are the shooting cliffs where the waves hit the side of the cliffs and spray water sometimes a hundred feet into the air. There are some cool water caves in the area that are accessible during the low tide. Overall my vacation in Hawaii, and specifically Maui, was one of the best weeks of my life and I would easily give up my Christmas in the states to do it all over again. Everyday I felt like I was in paradise. The resort was magnificent! Offering amazing restaurants, many pools, insane koi ponds that wrapped around the entire resort, and five different pools, including a water slide! The resort also offered daily classes, such as hula lessons, making leis, or snorkeling. As hard as it is to believe, we did actually choose to leave the resort! We spent a day shopping in Lahaina, and the evening horseback riding through the mountains. And took a glass bottom boat out to the island of Molokini to go snorkeling, and we even saw sea turtles! This vacation was one of the best weeks of my life. I have been all over the world and never found any place more beautiful. So when planning your next vacation, I highly suggest Maui! Today you can see this historical heritage by touring the 19th-century buildings such as the Baldwin House which was home to a missionary doctor in the 1830’s. You can visit authentic outdoor markets and art shows at the Lahaina Courthouse. Lahaina has many interesting local art galleries, shops and restaurants throughout the town. Many of the inns are from the Victorian era and still operating today. The railroad operates the Sugar Cane Train which offers a ride through the countryside in an open-air coach. Lahaina is located on the western coast of Maui. A nice road trip on Maui is the run to Hana from the Kahului airport on Hana Highway. It’s 53 miles long and takes you through a scenic mix of pineapple fields and rainforest and waterfalls. Along the way are the botanical gardens at Keanae Arboretum. Here you can stop to relax in a beautiful tropical rainforest setting with many local tropical plants, flowers and trees. You can enjoy a refreshing swim and hike the mile and a half trail.
