Kauai Things To Do by Nicole Hochstetle from CA - Knowing that I had a week of vacation time coming up at work I immediately began researching vacation ideas on the internet for a destination. After several days of research I decided on a trip to Kauai, Hawaii. I knew it would be wonderful and beautiful once I got there, but I had no idea how beautiful it truly was until I arrived. It was obvious once I got there why they called it the "garden island", because I felt like it was a description of the Garden of Eden. After climbing onto the runway after departing the plane I could feel the warmth in the air as I was greeted by native Hawaiians who placed a gorgeous lei, made up of live pink and white hibiscus flowers, around my neck. My plan was to fully enjoy all the Kauai things to do. The first day of my week long trip I ventured down to the beach below my hotel room at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa. The ocean waters were a crystal clear teal color and the white, sandy beach certainly didn’t disappoint. The hotel also had several pools and a salt-water lagoon to swim in and sunbathe around the sides in lounge chairs or underneath the cabanas. The following day, after taking part in some scuba diving lessons, I ventured out into the waters where I was able to come face-to-face with many of the native fish of Hawaii. It was truly breathtaking. This was my first time scuba diving and it was an experience like no other. I found a local scuba tour company (I can’t remember the name) and went out with their guide. We stayed close to the shore where the water was quite calm. This was perfect for me, a beginner. I think, of all the Kauai things to do, this was my favorite. When I returned to the hotel that afternoon I took full advantage of the full service salon by enjoying an hour long massage. This was also a first for me and now I see why people love this. I felt like a king. The rest of the week I spent time exploring the island and venturing to the scenic destinations. I hooked up with a company called Kauai Tours. They drove us around the island to see many beautiful places. One of the best decisions I made was to pay the money for a helicopter ride. Although it seemed like a lot of money at the time, I assure you it is definitely worth it. To be able to see the island from an aerial view is truly magical. I also went to the famous Waimea Canyon, or what they refer to as "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific." Carved out of the volcanic flows of the past, it is something special to see. Some other Kauai things to do that I tried are horse-back riding on a beach, kayaking and even talked myself into taking part in a surfing lesson, which once again is something I recommend. If I had any suggestion for vacation ideas for your next trip, I would say to make an adventure out of it. Do things you wouldn’t normally do and most importantly – Have Fun!
