By Stephanie from Iowa "What are some good honeymoon trip ideas?" This was the question my future-husband and I asked ourselves. We were to be married in a few months, and we still had not chosen a vacation destination. This would be the first time that either of us had taken a vacation by ourselves. We had never planned one, and we weren't quite sure where to start. We considered several European vacation ideas. But then we thought that, after the stress of planning a wedding, a tropical honeymoon might be nice. Just lay out in the sun and more or less stay in one spot without having to worry about seeing different historical sites and traveling once we had reached our destination. We felt we should save the European vacation for a later date. So, which tropical location should we choose: the Bahamas, Hawaii, Mexico? Having just graduated from college, we needed honeymoon trip ideas that would give us the most bang for our buck. Mexico seemed like it would fit our needs. After some consideration, we chose Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We stayed at the all-inclusive resort Riu Jalisco (which is actually located in Nuevo Vallarta - right next to Puerto Vallarta). The Riu Jalisco Resort was wonderful, clean, and had plenty of activities to choose from if you wanted something to do besides lying on the beach. The food and drinks were great, and the staff was fantastic! The beach was beautiful, with soft white sand and beautiful water. The waves were perfect for boogey boarding, which my husband and I tried with varying levels of success throughout our one week vacation. The resort also offered a variety of excursion activities if you felt like venturing outside of the resort. We tried two of the excursion activities, and we thoroughly enjoyed both. The first was a mini-cruise that included snorkeling in crystal clear water and a hike through tropical forest and a small fishing village. It ended with a stop at a pretty little waterfall where people could refresh themselves after the hike. The second excursion was zip lining through the tropical forest. Now, I am rather afraid of heights, but I felt this was an opportunity I should not pass up. It was absolutely amazing, breathtaking, and worth the extra bit of money we paid. The zip line staff was second to none. I felt completely safe, and once I got past the initial leap off the first balcony I couldn't wait to zip my way through the rest of the forest. It was such a thrill, and the views were spectacular. We also took one day to mill about the city of Puerto Vallarta, take in the sights, and do a little shopping at the outdoors markets. All in all, it was a superb choice of all the honeymoon trip ides. The price wasn't bad either, especially when compared to some more expensive tropical locations. Now, being married and a mother of two, I look back to our days on the beach at Riu Jalisco, and I start to think perhaps it's time for another tropical getaway.
