About an hour north of Tampa, Florida is the quiet little town of Brooksville. Vacation in Brooksville and you can enjoy a top golf vacation as well as some of the best river fishing and Gulf Coast fishing in the state.

Just ten miles from Brooksville is the thirty-six hole World Woods Golf Complex. It was designed by Tom Fazio and is part of an area of sand hills, longleaf pine and live oak known as the Brooksville Ridge.

There are two courses here, Pine Barrens and Rolling Oaks. Two miles west of World Woods is the gorgeous Dunes Golf Club. It was by Arthur Hills in 1988 and he considers the Dunes to be one of his favorite courses because of the way it so naturally lies on the sand and dunes terrain.

Orlando, in central Florida is obviously a popular vacation spot for a wide variety of reasons. You can certainly include golf in this list. Sugarloaf Mountain Golf Club is one of the best of the sand-based courses in the Lake Wales Ridge area.

The course was designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw features the tall sand hilltops of this former orange grove. Sugarloaf is located in Clermont near Lake Apopka and is known for it's spectacular views. The Lake Wales Ridge also includes two other top courses located south west of Orlando towards Tampa.

These are Southern Dunes Golf & Country Club and Diamondback Golf Club. The Southern Dunes is known for it's sculpted from the sand look & feel and the challenging 180 bunkers. Diamondback was designed by Joe Lee for tactical golf with narrow fairways and small greens.

Just north of Orlando are the bedroom communities of Deltona, Orange City and Deland. The sands of the Deland Ridge run through here and it's home to two top sand-belt courses. The Deltona Club in Deltona is one of the best courses in the state as a result of the face-lift performed by Bobby Weed. With canals of natural sand winding through the course and deceptively positioned fairways, Deltona Club course provides a unique challenge.

A little farther north from the city, small town Deland is home to Victoria Hills. The course features oak and pine trees among the long natural hills native to the area. Like the other courses in the Central Florida sand belts Victoria Hills makes judicious use of the sand underfoot both to please the aesthetics and challenge the play.
