Florida Vacation Ideas

Florida Vacation Ideas #1: The Everglades - A unique idea for your vacation in southern Florida is to rent a houseboat for a tour of The Everglades National Park.

A boat tour is a great way to see salt-water crocodiles, alligators, manatees, dolphins, herons, ibises, and many other birds. Canoe the Wilderness Waterway Trail or rent a kayak, bike, skiff for fishing....or charter a fishing boat. The park also has lots of hiking trails to explore.

#2: Skydive Deland - If you are planning an Orlando vacation take a drive just north of the city to Skydive Deland, in Deland. Thrill to the sight of lines of skydivers cascading down directly overhead....you can watch or even join in the fun yourself going solo....or strap yourself to an experienced diver for a tandem jump.

Champion skydivers train here for competition. Tom Cruise and former President George Bush both jumped at this sky diving training capital of the world.

#:3 St. Augustine - Ever since I can remember, my favorite vacation spot has been St. Augustine, Florida. I love spending the day walking leisurely down St. George Street. There are many quaint places to shop and have lunch, stopping occasionally to sit on a bench and people watch, and then top it all off with some delicious gelato from Cafe del Hidalgo.

There are also many local historical places to visit, ranging from the Oldest School house and Castillo de San Marcos fort near the ancient city gates, to the Fountain of Youth on picturesque Magnolia Street.

The evening is just as lively, and offers many different haunted ghost tours, from the original A Ghostly Experience to the more unique hearse tours. Need to do some more shopping?

Visit the local outlet mall, and then take the kids to feed the alligators or to the Family Fun Factory. Enjoy dinner at my favorite restaurant O.C.Whites, or maybe try an oyster po' boy at the Florida Cracker Cafe.

St. Augustine offers a variety of accommodations from haunted bed and breakfasts to pet friendly hotels, many within walking distance of the historical downtown area. No Florida vacation is complete without a trip to the beach, and nearby Anastasia Island offers a beautiful stretch of sand on which to stroll, and crossing the Bridge of Lions may even permit you a glimpse of the dolphins swimming down below. St. Augustine makes for both a fabulous couples get away and a family vacation idea everyone will remember. - Heather from Ohio

Florida Vacation Ideas #4: Silver Springs Park near Ocala, in central Florida, calls itself "Florida's original tourist attraction". Besides the glass bottom boat, which was invented in Silver Springs in 1878, you will find a full array of family fun including a Jungle Cruise, Jeep Safari, Petting Zoo, Botanical Gardens, Reptile and Creature Shows.
#5: Florida Panhandle - For a Florida Panhandle vacation, plan a self-guided tour of seven historic mansions and plantation homes. Stop in at the Tallahassee Visitors Center for a copy of the guide, Southern Manors and More Tour....it's a map and all the info you need. There's a fine antique automobile collection at Pebble Hill Plantation.... Victorian furniture is the focus of The Knott House Museum ....See the Broadway style Showboat Theater at the Melhana Plantation.

#6: A Segway Tour of Sarasota would make a fun vacation idea in Southwest Florida. Florida Ever-Glides offers a tour of downtown using Segway Human Transporters. Watch a brief video strap on a helmet and you're off on two wheels. It's easy and fun with Florida Ever-Glides.
Florida Vacation Ideas #7: Florida Keys - How about vacationing in a private home perched on a secluded Florida Keys peninsula. Chill out with your own private pool/spa, boat dock and beach while surrounded by the ocean. Enjoy the complete seclusion of an island, with all the conveniences of being on the mainland. It all happens at The Peninsular House in Grassy Key Harbor.
