Best family winter vacations #1: Mount Snow, Vermont - This winter our family (and friends) took a very exciting trip to Mount Snow, Vermont. There were a dozen of us total, so we had to rent multiple units in Seasons on Mount Snow.
Seasons is a condominium complex located right at the base of the mountain, so you can ski in and ski out of your unit without having to carry your equipment anywhere. We stayed for two nights, and had a blast!
The "sports center" at Seasons was great to relax in after a long day skiing, and the hot tubs there were just what the doctor ordered for my sore legs.
Each night we walked down the hill to the Snow Barn, which is a popular bar in the area.
We all had a great time there dancing the night away. Mount Snow is located in West Dover, Vermont, a small community that explodes with activity each winter.
During the summer, it is also a popular destination for mountain biking, and we have already begun planning a trip for June! - Justin from RI
Although I spent the vacation with a friend in her downtown Minneapolis apartment, there are many reasonably priced hotels in the area. In Bloomington there are many things to do and places to see which is what makes it so unique and enjoyable.
The most famous place to go here is the Mall of America. This is the largest mall in the US, but is fun not just because of all the stores and places to eat. In the mall are also theaters, entertainment facilities, an aquarium known as Underwater Adventures and even the biggest indoor amusement park in the US.
For the kids the amusement park offers many fun rides and there is also the Lego store with the adventures land which is fun for young and old. I highly recommend planning a couple of trips to the mall, because one day was not enough for me.
Another great place to go in Bloomington is the Hyland Lake Park Reserve, which is ideal for everyone who loves outdoor activities. In the winter there is skiing, but in the summer it is suitable for hiking, biking and canoeing. On top of that photographers will love the scenery.
I loved it here in the fall, because the trees were all a flaming red color and the weather was cool enough to enable a really long walk. I also went to the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. This was an interesting spot, because it was a natural setting in an urban area.
Finally, I enjoyed visiting the Normandale Japanese Garden. It is a great place to relax, because it is so serene. The landscaping is gorgeous and there is everything to admire from a lagoon, pond, waterfall, and islands and everywhere the handmade lanterns provide decoration and light. - Katy from Ohio
The accommodations were great although we spent most of our time exploring all that Destin has to offer. On the first day we went on a dolphin cruise expedition which was great fun. The boat ride lasted two hours and we saw plenty of dolphins and learned a great deal of history about the city of Destin.
We also went golfing at Seascape Resort which was relatively cheap for the quality experience we received. There are also many fine dining establishments available in Destin. We basically went out to eat every night and some spots I would recommend are Fudpuckers, McGuire's Irish Pub, and The Harbor Docks.
On the last day of our trip we took an hour drive to Pensacola and visited the Naval Museum located there. This was a wonderful experience and it was one of my favorite parts of the trip. For anyone thinking about visiting Destin, I would highly recommend it.
Destin was one of the best family winter vacations for us. There are plenty of family fun activities without the “spring break” atmosphere typical of many Florida hot spots. - Carl from Pittsburgh
