We stayed at The Cannery Pier Hotel. We had a private balcony, a claw foot tub, phenomenal room service - complimentary bicycles, and a complimentary "old fashioned limo" to drive us anywhere we pleased within the town limits. I couldn't have felt more like a princess without actually dressing in an extravagant gown and having my hand kissed. The eateries were first rate, hiking to famous historical lighthouses, rich history, and small town charm encircled us everywhere we went. This is an A+ anniversary vacation idea - relaxing and fun. We simply can't wait to go back! After breakfast, there were tons of activities, from library reading, to shopping, to attending shows, taking dance lessons, arts lessons, hot tubs, swimming, sun tanning, gambling at the casino, etc. The list of activities never ended. Then it was lunch time, and again, food was unlimited; same thing with dinner. Whenever the ship landed, we could get off the ship and go out and shop at local stores, try cultural food, sightseeing, etc. But the best part was just relaxing with each other, watching the sea, enjoying the wind and the sun, watching sunrises and sunsets. The cabin was very comfortable, and the maid came to clean the room every day, and always left some free chocolates on the pillows!! Life was great and I fell in love with cruise vacations ever since! Among those activities were multiple trips to Pier 39, touring Chinatown, visiting Ghirardelli square, and seeing the huge redwood trees and Muir Woods. We also took a guided tour of Alcatraz, took a city tour than included seeing the Golden Gate Bridge and visiting Golden Gate Park, and visited the aquarium at Pier 39. Our favorite part of the trip was probably the tour of Alcatraz - it was interesting and informative to see, being one of those places you always hear about. All in all, our trip to San Francisco was wonderful and filled with lots of fun and interesting activities. I would recommend a trip there to anyone! My wife had seafood (mostly lobster) for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for five straight days. Lobster is cheap and it’s everywhere on the coast of Maine. Even McDonald's sells lobster salad rolls. This trip was the first time either of us had to deal with a whole lobster on a platter. Dissembling it and extracting the meat is a messy and delicious task. Other things we did near Bar Harbor include a whale watching trip out in Frenchman's Bay, and driving through Acadia National Park. The park drive features magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean as you cruise along. Try to go in the early fall, just after school starts. That cuts down on the crowds, but also gives you plenty of gorgeous fall foliage to enjoy. Be sure to bring or rent a car to enjoy the drive. Along the way, we took land excursions to the mountain ranges of the area, and at one time even went zip lining through the forest. The trip had amazing photo opportunities- we saw glaciers, wildlife, and even a few whales on the trip. Let me tell you, there really is nothing like waking up in your cabin and finding that a real live Orca whale is swimming right outside your window! We had some unforgettable experiences on the deck of the ship, too, including at one point when we were surprised by a live mariachi band, right next to the pool. We ended up staying up way too late that night, dancing the night away in the surprisingly warm air.
