Affordable Weekend Getaways Romantic #1:
While it may not be the first place that comes to mind in terms of romantic vacation ideas, the shores of Lake Superior in northern Minnesota is an ideal place to get away with that special someone. The scenery as you drive up to Lake Superior's shore, through beautiful Duluth, is lined with majestic stands of pine and rock outcroppings. Take a vacation like this in the heat of the summer, and you will be invigorated by temperatures likely to range in the 50's.

But the very best part about a romantic retreat on Lake Superior is finding that perfect log cabin or lodge to rent, then spending a blissful evening being lulled into the best sleep you ever had by the sound of waves crashing against the rocky shoreline. Choose a lodge with a fireplace and even a private Jacuzzi, and you'll be in heaven. There are plenty of them available at very reasonable rates. Forget about shopping malls and dressing up, and just enjoy an intimate break.

Eating local food and being away from the more "touristy" parts of PR makes this spot a perfect low cost get-a-way for a couple!

Most hotels are inexpensive and the locals are very friendly, willing to help you find what you need at a drop of a dime. At nighttime, the beaches light up with swim-up bars and tiki huts with delicious frozen drinks and a snack called Pincho Pollo, which is basically a chicken kabob grilled and marinated to perfection!

I would recommend this vacation spot to anyone, couple or not, looking for a relaxing and culturally exciting vacation that cost you nearly as much as many other more popular and crowded tropical vacation spots.

Contributed by Amy - Our favorite romantic vacation idea is Gatlinburg, TN. While we've been to plenty of romantic beach getaways, a beautiful secluded mountain vacation tops them all for us. Gatlinburg has the perfect location- right in the middle of the Great Smoky Mountains, and the scenery just grabs you by the heart as soon as you see it. My suggestion is to choose one of the many cabins or chalets.

Many of the area accommodations have spectacular restaurants, great spa facilities, and attentive staff. With the secluded cabins, you and your sweetheart will be able to have a romantic and secluded getaway but still have the charming small town of Gatlinburg just minutes away. There are many great walking trails, a tramway to the mountaintop, really quaint shopping, and much more to enjoy in Gatlinburg.

Compared to many other places we could go, Gatlinburg provides a lot of vacation pleasure for way less cost. For a romantic getaway, it's the best: beautiful scenery, plenty to do, and alone time with your other half.

It is only a short 3 or 4 hour drive from Seattle, and would be a great two or three day side trip from a visit to the hustle-and-bustle of Seattle.

Lake Quinault Lodge is a rustic lodge which was built almost a hundred years ago. It now features updated guest rooms, an elegant restaurant with views, a magnificent reading room, and a lovely outdoor relaxation area with a beach, grassy field, and gazebo pit. Canoes and kayaks are available to rent, and make for a very relaxing and romantic experience.

Many of the guest rooms are very romantic and have river rock fireplaces, large comfortable beds, and views of the water from their decks. You can watch the waves flapping against the shore while sipping a drink with your significant other, which makes for a very romantic evening.

A typical day of relaxation at Lake Quinault would be breakfast at the lodge, followed by a short hike in the rainforest surrounding it, then canoeing together on the lake during the day, reading in the afternoon, then capping it all off with dinner at the restaurant and relaxing on your deck. It’s a very romantic spot!

Contributed by Jan - Last summer a vacation we took to Southeast coast of North Carolina was very relaxing and romantic. We rented a house at Kure Beach, where there was plenty of privacy to sunbathe and explore the beach. There were dolphins swimming along shore, as well as many kinds of birds.

It was great to wake up to the sun rising over the ocean. For dinner, downtown Wilmington offered some lovely restaurants and a romantic boardwalk along the Cape Fear River. A horse drawn carriage was also available for tours of the historic area.

There are many homes, mansions, and churches preserved which the guide describes in the most interesting way. I would really like to tour the Bellamy Mansion on our next trip back to the Wilmington area.

The place is perfect for just a romantic weekend getaway especially for those who live in New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. I suggest bringing your passport so you can view the Canadian side in addition to the American side. The Canadian side is much prettier and there’s more to do. The Maid of the Mist and the Cave of the Winds are a must for everyone if you really want an up-close and personal experience of the falls. You can experience both attractions for a relatively cheap price. There’s a large public park surrounding the falls which is free. The park is relatively large and has many locations to take good pictures of the falls.

The hotels near the falls are quite expensive, but you can stay at a number of cheap low budget inns a few miles from the falls for like 40 dollars/night. We stayed at one of these inns and ate at Hard Rock Café by the falls. There’s also a creepy wax museum near the falls that’s free for those truly on a budget. For those who are willing to splurge a little more, there are IMAX theaters, Ripley’s, and a number of casinos on the Canadian side.
